Warning others and calling the fire service

Warning others is the duty of anyone who discovers a fire. Raise the alarm by shouting "Fire!", pressing a manual call point, knocking on doors, so that neighbors and colleagues also have time to get out. Do not panic or cause panic: report clearly and to the point, help organize the exit, and pay special attention to those who may not hear the alarm (people who are asleep, wearing headphones, hard of hearing, children).

Calling the fire service must not be delayed. Dial your country's emergency number: in Ukraine — 101 (fire) or 112, in the EU — 112, in Switzerland the fire service is 118, the single European number is 112. Do not assume "someone has already called": several duplicate calls are better than none. Call even if you intend to fight the fire yourself.

Give the dispatcher the most useful information: the exact address (street, building, entrance, floor, flat/room number), what exactly is burning (a flat, an electrical panel, a car, a warehouse), whether people are in danger and whether anyone remains inside, and the best way to approach. Give your surname and phone number. Do not hang up first — wait for the dispatcher to confirm they have enough information; they may give important instructions. After calling, if it is safe, guide the fire crews in.
